Caring for Real Wood Garden Furniture
Friday, 10 May 2013 11:04 am
Wooden garden furniture is expensive  and it is possible to invest a great deal of money in wood furniture, however if it’s not looked after it will soon end up looking old, tired, worn out and very weathered, especially in the erratic British climate.

If at all possible, when not in use, you should store wood furniture inside, however if you can’t, then at least buy a protective waterproof cover to help protect your furniture.

True hardwood furniture is extremely durable and requires very little maintenance but does, in time, weather to a silvery grey colour. To keep the original look, apply a coat of teak oil on purchase and ensure this is completed before any rain or moisture has made soaked into your furniture.

Periodically, give your wooden furniture the occasional scrub with a mild soapy warm water solution and gentle scrubbing brush. Once cleaned, softwood must be allowed to dry thoroughly and then given a coat of purpose made wood preservative. Doing this annually will maintain the life of your garden furniture.

When using proprietary cleaners or applying preservatives always follow the instructions supplied. Additionally, some new furniture will come with maintenance instructions if the wood needs special care or treatment - follow these instructions carefully and you will have years of use from your furniture.

True hardwood garden furniture - is by its nature a very durable material so it needs little if any wood preservative. However, to improve its appearance you may rub in a little teak oil or a water based wood stain.
